Izaac Kennedy's hopes of winning the elite men's 2022 UCI BMX Racing World Championship final in Nantes has ended in cruel circumstances, with the Logan City BMX Academy product unable to avoid a chaotic opening straight crash.

The 21-year-old was brought down by a falling Arthur Pilard and an unclipped Sylvain Andre (both France) on the face of the second jump.

Kennedy was able to remount and roll across the line to finish in sixth.

Switzerland's Simon Marquart was the eventual winner ahead of Great Britain's Kye Whyte in second and Frenchman Joris Daudet in third.

Australia's other finalist in Nantes on Sunday was Rockingham BMX Club's Jordan Callum in junior men.

The 17-year-old capped off a great weekend of racing with a fourth-place finish.
