COVID-19 UPDATE

In response to the developing situation nationally concerning COVID-19 outbreaks and related restrictions, AusCycling, unfortunately, has made the difficult decision to cancel the AusCycling Mountain Bike Schools National Championships scheduled to be held on the Gold Coast from 13-15 August.

This is obviously very disappointing for all involved however out of anyone’s control.
Riders who have entered via EntryBoss can scratch from the event at any time to be provided with a full refund - https://entryboss.cc/

We thank all our riders, partners, hosts and spectators for their understanding and cooperation.

These are challenging times and we appreciate the ongoing support of the cycling family as we navigate this together.

About the Event

The AusCycling MTB National Schools Championships will be held on the Gold Coast from Friday 13th – Sunday 15th August 2021.

Supported by the Major Events Gold Coast, the event will bring together students from across Australia to compete in three fun filled days of Mountain Biking events and activities, whilst also building student comradery and providing opportunities for engagement and interactions with students from other schools in a fun environment.

Held at Gold Coast Cycle Centre and in the Nerang National Park which was home to the 2018 Commonwealth Games MTB competition, and utilising the extensive network of trails for all skill levels and ability, this will be an experience not to be missed!

The event is aimed at students between Year 7 and Year 12.

Event Schedule

  • Friday 13th August – Registration, Prologue and XCC Racing
  • Saturday 14th August – XCO Racing and Team Relay
  • Sunday 15th August – GE Racing

A detailed schedule will be available closer to the event.

Format

Competition will consist of a prologue followed by three point-scoring races over three days with points contributing to both individual and school results. Individual performance will be acknowledged and presentation ceremonies will focus on school performance per discipline and overall.

  • Cross-Country Time trial (XCT): Friday will commence with a prologue to determine participant seeding for subsequent events. The prologue will be a short (1-2 minute). Cross-country time trial on a grass surface inside the velodrome
  • Cross-Country Short Course (XCC): Following the prologue, the first points race will be a Cross-Country Short Course over a course of approximately 800m within the Gold Coast Cycle Centre Criterium area. Start order within each Year level will be based on the prologue results.
  • Cross-Country Olympic (XCO): The second day will be a XCO race day. Riders will start in their respective year group and race a course of 4-6km in length. Following the XCO, schools will select their best riders from junior, middle and senior levels to compete in a Team Relay event.
