The AusCycling Advanced Coaching Course (previously Level 2 Coach) will be held over the weekends of 23-24 and 30-31 October 2021 (0900-1730 AEDT each day) followed up by a 3.5 research presentation session 7 November 2021 (1400-1730 AEDT).

The course is delivered by face-to-face webinar meetings utilising breakout sessions and focused learning specific to the discipline choices of the learner.

The Advanced Coaching Course has been developed under the Sport Australia education course guidelines 2017. The course provides the opportunity for coaches to learn, study and be assessed for both the theoretical and practical aspects of coaching emerging elite cyclists. This coaching course aims to bring all disciplines of cycling together and provide education for those persons wishing to coach athletes aspiring to represent their State or Territory at National Championships and International events.

The course provides in depth information relevant to cycling on the assessment of physiology, psychology, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and health management of the emerging elite athlete.

  • The role of a coach at the National level
  • Managing risk at the National level
  • Applied cycling physiology and performance assessment
  • Annual planning and periodisation
  • Training for sprint-based events
  • Training for endurance-based events
  • Strength and conditioning for cycling performance
  • Assessing and monitoring athlete progression
  • Enhancing recovery
  • Nutrition for optimal cycling performance
  • Mental preparation for competition
  • The coach as a people manager
  • The biomechanics of the athlete and the event
  • Equipment selection
  • Health management
  • Travelling and training camps at the National level

 

Pre-requisites for attendance:

  • Level 1 or Development coach in your discipline for the preceding 12 months
  • Current First Aid certificate (HLTAID003 or HLTAID011)
  • Current Working With Children Check relative to your State/territory legislation
  • Completed Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) online anti-doping courses of level 1 and annual level 2 updates.
