AusCycling are proud to announce that the 2021 Freestyle BMX Nationals will be happening in Melbourne, at RampFest Indoor Skate Park, on the 13th & 14th of March 2021.

The Freestyle BMX Nationals will be one of the last major contests for our Olympic hopefuls before Tokyo 2021 – and they’ll all be looking to impress the judges and selectors.

With most major international events heavily impacted by Covid-19, our top riders have been training hard and are looking forward to competing in one of the strongest national fields in the world. Australia boasts the World Number 1 & 2 in the Men's Class (Brandon Loupos & Logan Martin), plus a Top 10 rider in the Women's Class (Natalya Diem)– all strong chances at the Olympics.

Along with these athletes, the field will also consist of previous World Cup Winner Jake Wallwork (Melbourne) and a whole crop of younger riders who have just started to be competitive at an international level – such as Alec Danelutti (Melbourne), Sam Gibson (Sydney), Jack Borthwick (Brisbane), Josh Matthews (Gold Coast) and others.

The Freestyle Nationals will also feature competition categories for junior and amateur riders, along with a masters category.

“We’re really excited to have this event back in Melbourne” said Chris Bierton, the owner of RampFest. “Since the last time we hosted the Nationals, we’ve made some major park changes, and we can’t wait to see the standard of riding – this will be the last major hit out for most of these guys before the Olympics, so we know everyone is going to be giving it their all.”

Current Australian Champion, Logan Martin, is looking forward to heading back to Melbourne too. “Last time I was down here, I was stoked to take out the win at the Oceania Titles – so I love the course. And now, I’m the defending Aus Champ, so I can’t wait to get out there and try and keep that jersey for another year.”

Logan will face some stiff competition from current Wold Number 1, Brandon Loupos though. “At the last Nationals in Brisbane, I came up a bit short on a few things I wanted to do – so I definitely wasn’t happy with my run. I’m really looking forward to another shot at the title and it would be great to get a win on the board in the lead up to Tokyo.”

Brandon won the Nationals when they were last held at RampFest in 2018.
