2021 AusCycling BMX National Championships: WA here we come!

After the most disrupted year in BMX history, the first National Championships to be hosted by AusCycling is heading to Perth, Western Australia.

The 2021 Australian titles will take place from November 22 to 27 at Westside BMX club with the support of the State Government through Tourism WA and the City of Stirling.

Australia’s premier race week was last in Western Australia in 2018 where Bunbury hosted more than 1,300 riders in a successful week of racing.

The 2021 event will look to be even bigger with AusCycling allowing other cycling disciplines to participate in their first national championships.

The November date is one part of the new AusCycling BMX National Cup which was recently released to much fanfare.

On top of this, AusCycling will be hosting the final round of the National Cup at Westside BMX Club on November 24.

Across the week, riders as young as five, all the way through to Masters level riders in both the Olympic standard 20-inch wheel class and the 24-inch cruiser class, will line up for their first National Championships under AusCycling.

AusCycling’s Acting Joint CEO Shane Coppin welcomed the news and was appreciative of the community’s support during this turbulent year.

“This year has been a truly testing time for us all and we want to thank all members of the BMX community for their understanding and patience during this difficult year,”

“We are pleased to announce the date and location of next year’s National Championships, and we are looking forward to working alongside Tourism WA and the City of Stirling to produce the platinum event on the AusCycling BMX calendar.”

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said it was great to welcome all the excitement of the National BMX Championships back to WA.

“After a three-year break, it’s exciting to have the national championships back in WA, and the City of Stirling, as there’s such a strong BMX following here,” Mayor Mark Irwin said.

“The Westside BMX Club in Balcatta is a brilliant venue to showcase the best of the best BMX riders from around Australia, so it’s set to be a thrilling contest.”

A formal launch of the championships will be held at a later date, with further information about the event including the technical guide, communicated to members as soon as it comes to hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have you considered the dates and their impact to High School exams?

AusCycling has contacted all State and Territory education departments. While many still have not yet confirmed dates none believed that there would be exams at this time of the year.

Will the Championships be conducted if borders are closed?

With positive signs in respect of Australia’s management of COVID-19, AusCycling is confident the Championships will be able to be conducted with all States and Territories present.

The health of our entrants is our top priority, and should health advice prevent the event from going ahead as scheduled, AusCycle will continue to work with the relevant States and Territories to reschedule where possible.

When will nominations open?

We expect nominations to open by mid 2021.

How does the national championships affect elite and superclass classes?

The National Championships will run Junior and Elite Categories. Round 6 will be the final round for the Superclass category, taking place on November 24 at Westside BMX Club. This round will also be the triple points round for the overall National Cup.
