The dates for the 2021 AusCycling Federation University Road National Championships have been confirmed with 3-7 February 2021 locked in for the five-day Championships in Ballarat and the surrounding region which will signify a celebration of the return of international level road cycling in Australia.

The rescheduled 2021 Championships will take place one month later to enable the safe delivery of a major regional event to the Ballarat region by optimising our COVID-19 planning and providing a safe environment for the community, competitors, and workforce.

AusCycling has been working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and the City of Ballarat to ensure that the Championships will be conducted in a COVID safe environment. Details of these plans will be announced closer to the Championships.

The February date will also provide riders with additional time to prepare for the Championships, and assist those athletes who will also participate in December’s Track National Championships.

Across the five-days, hundreds of Australia’s finest elite, para, under 23, under 19 and amateur riders are set to line up for their chance to wear the green and gold jersey in 2021.

The 2021 schedule will mirror the successful format seen in 2020 which saw the Championships open on Wednesday night with the time trial at Federation University’s Mt Helen Campus.

The action-packed Friday night criterium will light up the streets of the Ballarat CBD and kick-start an exciting weekend of road racing on the iconic Mt Buninyong circuit.

AusCycling's Acting Joint CEO Steve Drake welcomed the news, "After such a challenging year we are excited to be able to host the Federation University Road National Championships. We look forward to the Championships providing a positive impact for Ballarat and the cycling community as part of an exciting domestic summer of cycling."

City of Ballarat CEO Janet Dore added, "The City of Ballarat is committed to working with AusCycling to deliver this world class event for Ballarat in February 2021 in a COVID-safe format that protects our community, riders and spectators."
