AusCycling to launch a major review of its program of events

LogoLogoNAT

AusCycling is set to launch a major review of its program of events, an initiative designed to ensure that each year’s calendar meets a range of key objectives.

The review, which will consider all disciplines and sub-disciplines, will be overseen by an Events Review Advisory Group comprised of a range of industry experts.

While the review is largely focused on what will be required to create a commercially sustainable calendar of events, it will also consider:

  • Improved experiences for riders, fans and the workforce,
  • Alignment of events to best support the development of athletes, coaches and the workforce,
  • Ways to identify and close gaps between the event schedule and the creation of robust athlete pathways,
  • The optimal roles and rights of AusCycling, member clubs and race organisers in both individual events and the broader event calendar,
  • What’s working, and what’s not working across AusCycling’s schedule of events with additional consideration of best practices in other sports, both nationally and internationally.

From a commercial perspective, the review will consider opportunities presented by sponsorship, licensing, hospitality and experiences, broadcast and digital rights, sanction fees and more.

Highly-experienced executive, Rob Nelson, will lead the review, which is expected to be completed in early 2024.

Nelson has worked in the public and private sectors in sport, major events, visitor economies and economic development. He has been an elite athlete in canoeing and surf lifesaving and is a keen cyclist.

Recruitment for the Events Advisory Group is close to completion and will include Nelson, AusCycling’s Executive General Manager of Sport, Kipp Kaufmann, representatives from the broader sport, independent advisors, and event organisers.
