AusCycling Position Statement on International Activities Update

In response to the current global COVID-19 pandemic, AusCycling (AC) wishes to update its current position on its international competition activities. In developing this position statement, consideration was given to a range of factors including, but not limited to, how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected:

• The general population worldwide

• International racing

• Domestic and international travel restrictions and logistics

• Short and long term health risks

• Availably and scope of international travel insurance

• AusCycling’s duty of care towards its members and staff

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) continues to advise there is a ban on overseas travel from Australia. Australian citizens cannot leave Australia without an exemption from DFAT.

In addition, the federal government recently reduced the number of places in quarantine hotels making the return to Australia difficult and expensive. Athletes risk being stranded overseas for extended periods due to limited flight availability.

As such, AusCycling will not be conducting any national team campaigns or projects outside of Australia before 30 April 2021 with the following possible exception:

• AusCycling’s position may be reconsidered for campaigns and projects in New Zealand in the case there is a government-endorsed Trans-Tasman travel bubble

• Exemption may be granted to National Team activity where there is a risk to Olympic qualification only

In addition, the following applies to specific disciplines and events:

MTB WORLD CUPS

AusCycling will NOT enter riders in UCI World Cup events over which it has entry jurisdiction between now and 30 April 2021. For clarity this includes:

• Federation entries (riders without the required UCI ranking points)

• Individual entries (riders with the required UCI rankings points)

The following exceptions to the above apply:

• Riders that are contracted to overseas-based UCI registered trade teams

• Riders who are residentially based overseas

AusCycling continues to monitor the global situation and will review the situation
