Brisbane announced as host for 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Cup

Brisbane, Queensland will be the centre of the BMX Racing universe for three days in early 2024, following the UCI announcement that Sleeman Supercross Track will host rounds three and four of the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Cup.

From February 24-26, the best BMX riders from across the planet will descend on Brisbane for three days of world class competition, held in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland, and the Brisbane Economic Development Agency.

The event will also be a key in the qualification pathway to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Sleeman Supercross Track has undergone several upgrades in recent years, and the world-class venue will host the 2024 Oceania BMX Racing Championships the prior weekend, setting the scene for a bumper two-week festival of BMX Racing.

The venue is also set to host the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships and BMX Racing events for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

AusCycling Executive General Manager Sport Kipp Kaufmann said that securing the rights to stage a UCI BMX Racing World Cup in Australia had significant positive implications for Brisbane and fans of the sport.

“We have some of the best BMX riders in the world here in Australia. Seeing our homegrown talent taking on the world’s best in Brisbane will be an incredible spectacle,” Kaufmann said.

“Sleeman is truly a state-of-the-art venue, and I know many of our top riders have been taking part in specialised training sessions there since February this year, maximising our home track advantage for when the gates drop.

“I’m so excited our fans will get to cheer on the Aussie riders on home soil and give them a huge lift against the best the world has to offer.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said hosting the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Cup would help cement Brisbane as a world-class sporting destination.

“One-third of Brisbane residents live within 300 metres of a bikeway, so hosting BMX’s pinnacle global event makes perfect sense,” Cr Schrinner said.

“BMX is an incredibly popular Olympic discipline, and the World Cup is expected to attract 3,350 people from outside south east Queensland to see the world’s best BMX riders, generating a $4.27 million boost to Brisbane’s local economy.

“I encourage anyone planning to visit Brisbane for BMX Racing World Cup to get on their bike post event and explore the many exciting entertainment precincts our city has on offer.”
