Troy Brosnan has won the opening downhill round of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz UCI MTB World Cup downhill in Leogang, Austria.

The South Australian, riding for the Canyon Collective Factory Team, was the fastest qualifier and would have the last word as he clawed his way from two seconds down in the finals to pip Frenchman Thibault Daprela (Commencal/Muc-Off By Riding) for the win with just over a second to spare.

The last time Brosnan has been on top of a World Cup podium was in Vallnord, Andorra in 2017.

In cross-country, after a silver in the short track on Friday Rebecca McConnell (PrimaFlor Mondraker XSauce) would have to settle for seventh in a race again dominated by Frenchwoman Loana Lecomte (Massi) who made it three from three wins.
