The celebration of cycling at the Santos Festival of Cycling continues on Sunday at The Cove with their 2021 BMX Summer Showdown in Hallet Cove.

The sixth and final day of the Santos Festival of Cycling will feature the Summer showdown, the final Stage 4 of the National Road Series, with the Santos ParaCycling Wheel Race taking place at Victoria Park.

If you cannot make it down to the track, The Advertiser will be exclusively live streaming the event from 10:30AM on Sunday. Make sure you’re following The Cove for gate times and all the latest information throughout the day.

If you can be up close to the action, head down to The Cove to see junior Australian champion Matt Tidswell up against Olympian, Anthony Dean in what should be a cracking contest.

Tidswell raced in the first three World Cup rounds in Shepparton and Bathurst early last year before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

The national junior elite champion was six years old when he began riding and will be one of 60 Cove BMX Club members to compete at the Summer Showdown.

He was looking forward to having people from around the country and globe tune in via the live stream.

“It’s super exciting for BMX to get some coverage so we can hopefully grow the sport,” Tidswell said.

“A win would be a really good way to start off the year and then see where I can go from there.”

The 2021 BMX Summer Showdown is part of the Santos Festival of Cycling. The domestic cycling event replaced the Tour Down Under this year and kicked off on Tuesday.

Cove BMX chairman Chris Hanna was looking forward Sunday’s event.

“There’s riders from all around the state and a number from interstate competing with about 15-160 riders in total,” Hanna said.

“We are really excited to host an event of this standard in the first major event under the AusCycle banner.

“It will boost our profile and it’s a really good start to the 2021 BMX calendar after what was an interrupted 2020.”
