Advance Traders and Wakeling Automotive join the Ride Nation Family

AusCycling is pleased to announce that Advance Traders and Wakeling Automotive are the latest to join the list of local businesses providing support for the Ride Nation Wollongong program.

Fresh off the back of last year’s funding from the Government, Ride Nation is pleased to be welcoming further support from local businesses that will play a vital role in making cycling more accessible to students across the Illawarra.

The new partnerships with Advance Traders and Wakeling Automotive will form the final pieces of a triumvirate of support for the new Bike Immersion Days, as they join Shingleback Off Road who announced their support for the program before Christmas last year.

The Ride Nation Wollongong team will be presenting the series of exciting and engaging Bike Immersion Day activations to more than 80 primary schools across the Illawarra region, the first of which is set to kick off on May 5 at Pleasant Heights Primary School.

Originating in the Macarthur Region, Wakeling Automotive acquired the Illawarra’s iconic City Motors Group in 2019 bringing Wollongong City Motors, Mercedes Benz Wollongong and Shellharbour City Motors into the fold, which already included Paul Wakeling Motor Group in Campbelltown, Camden Valley Motors in Smeaton Grange, and Moss Vale Motor Group and Allan Mackay Autos in the Southern Highlands.

The Wakeling Automotive brand also includes TyrePlus Campbelltown, providing customers with access to a wide range of tyres in one convenient location, the long established Camden Cycles, offering a wide range of bicycles and cycling accessories and most recently, Camden Valley 4X4 and Outdoor.

“Wakeling Automotive, through our City Motors Group operation, are proud to be supporters of the Ride Nation movement in the Illawarra,” said Scott Wakeling, Managing Director of Wakeling Automotive.

“Our goals of supporting local organisations and promoting positive outcomes for the community are aligned with this project, and we’re proud to provide a transport solution for the Ride Nation team.”

The partnership supports Ride Nation by providing access to a Mercedes-Benz Vito from the City Motors Group which will service the program as a capable tow vehicle for the Shingleback Offroad Outrigger trailer.

While the team at Advance Traders, an Australian owned and operated bike distributor, have kindly agreed to supply 16 bikes from KINK BMX and a total of 20 helmets from Met for students to use throughout the series of Bike Immersion Days.

“We look forward to a long partnership and helping put more kids on bikes through this fantastic Ride Nation project.”

Advance Traders have also agreed to give away a 2022 Blood Orange KINK Curb BMX to one lucky participant in the program, adding further incentive for students in the region to get involved.

“It is exciting to bring bike riding into school grounds, providing an opportunity for all beginner cyclists to enjoy bike related activities, learn about the upcoming World Championships and become energetic about one of the world’s biggest sporting events coming to their region,” said Alex Meyland, Ride Nation Wollongong Coordinator at AusCycling.

“We have been so excited to build a program that encompasses both on and off bike activities and it’s incredible to have support from both local and national partners which enables us to provide this unique opportunity for the community.”
