Women's Mountain Bike Maintenance Workshops

 in Alice Springs.

Beginner Workshop

Do you not mountain bike as much as you would like to because you have a flat tyre or might get one out on the trails and you don’t know how to fix it? Are you not confident sliming a tube, taking off the back wheel, taking off the tyre, and putting it all back together again? Are you unsure about the best way to clean your bike and what bits to clean?

Does it annoy you immensely that you rely on someone else to solve these bike mechanical problems, it costs you money, and stops you from riding?

Well, the answer is here: Beginner Women's Mountain Bike Maintenance Workshop.

This workshop is intended to develop bike maintenance skills for female mountain bikers in a supportive, safe, and positive environment. Mum’s and daughters are welcome to register for one place and come to the workshop together.

The following topics may be covered in the course: (please list what you want to learn in the registration process)

·       How to clean a bike and chain

  • ·       Slime a tube

    ·       Take back wheel off

    ·       Fix a flat tyre

    ·       You will receive a printout of key tasks covered during the workshop

What if things could be different and you knew how to clean your bike so it works effectively? What if you could confidently fix a flat tyre? Imagine you know how to slime a tube, take both wheels off and put back on the frame, take the tyre on and off the rim, put in a tube, inflate it, and do all the bits to make it work smoothly again. How would that feel? What would that make possible for you and your mountain biking? It’s infinite, isn’t it? Ride on your own, ride wherever you want, no need to rely on others to do your basic bike maintenance because you are rocking this and you’ve totally GOT IT COVERED. It is empowering, exciting, and possible. You deserve this. Sign up now to make it happen.

These workshops will be facilitated by Emma Shearer, an experienced mountain biker and teacher for 10 years. Ever since Emma arrived in Alice Springs she has dived into learning as much as she can about mountain biking. She loves riding fast, is a long-term key member of the CARR committee, supports the development of junior and female mountain biking in her role as a teacher and leader in the Women’s Social MTB Group, and enjoys the mechanics of bikes. She recently completed a Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology and is an AusCycling MTB Development Instructor.

Participants to bring:

·    Your bike to practice most tasks.

·    A tube for sliming if possible
