2024 Victorian Interschool Cycling Series

Introduction

Welcome to the 2024 Victorian Interschools Cycling Series. This year the events will be run with the support of Auscycling Victoria by Blackburn, Carnegie, Ballarat-Sebastapol and Hawthorn Cycling Clubs.

The series have been run for a number years very successfully. Each event run will be the responsibility of the promoting club and their team of volunteers.

Age Requirements

The series is open to any riders born between 2015 and 2005. 

Race Membership

As the series is a schools event, AusCycling insurance covers riders during the event. However, we do strongly recommend that you sign up for a Full membership or a 4 free trial

  • Individual entries are taken through Entryboss
  • School bulk entries can be submitted via this form
  • Each competitor will be issued with two body numbers , 1 frame number and a transponder.
  • Numbers must NOT be cut, folded or modified in any way.
  • Riders must wear both (one for time trials) numbers, one on each the left and right-side pockets. 
  • The transponder is to be securely mounted with a cable tie on the front fork as low as possible, 40 to 45 cm from the ground. Failure to attach the transponder may result in a delay of the result.

It is the riders’ responsibility to return their transponder after they finish/abandon the race.

Transponders that are not returned at the event conclusion need to be posted asap to: AUSCYCLING, 281 DAREBIN RD, THORNBURY, 3071, VIC.

  • Late return fee: $30
  • Lost transponder fee: $125

Categories are based on the 2024 age categories (age as of 31 December 2024)

Riders will be earning series points towards the overall individual as well as the school tally as per the following table:

In the event of a tie in the overall individual ranking, the following criteria shall be applied to separate the riders:

  1. Number of 1st places
  2. Number of 2nd places
  3. Number of 3rd places etc.

If riders are still tied after the above mentioned criteria, they will be both placed the same.

General

  1. All events will be held according to the AusCycling Technical Regulations for Road > click here

  2. Regulations surrounding the suitability of equipment will be in accordance with current AusCycling Technical Regulations with the following exceptions/clarifications:

  • Roll out distances (junior gear restrictions) are NOT enforced at VICS events. However, AusCycling strongly recommends riders to adhere to the gear restrictions of their respective age group.

  • Only AusCycling approved standard road bicycles for all events [No TT specific bicycles or wheels for either ITT or TTT events]

  • The use of clip on bars will be permitted for ITT and TTT events for Senior Categories.

  • Wheels must have at least 16 spokes with a maximum rim depth of 44mm.

  • All helmets must be Australian Standards compliant [For more information on helmet standards please read this CyclingTips article]

Suggested Gear Ratios

Under the AusCycling Technical Regulations, junior riders normally adhere to a maximum gear size during racing events. While the roll-out gear restrictions will not be enforced in the Victorian Interschool Cycling Series, the following ratios are recommended:

  • U11/13 - 5.5m
  • U15 - 6.1m
  • U17 - 7.0m
  • U19 – no restrictions.

This event/VICS is held in the public domain. Photographs and videos will record elements of this event. Registration to participate in this event is provided with an understanding that members of the public, the organising clubs and other organisations are likely to publish images of this event through various different media channels.
