Our Disciplines

The following discipline definitions exist in AusCycling:
 

BMX Freestyle is a discipline where riders are judged on their style and the difficulty of their program.  BMX Freestyle events include the Park and Flatland.

BMX Racing takes place on a 350-400m track. The riders begin from a start ramp that launches them at considerable speed as they ride through bumps, berms and flat sections. 

Cyclo-Cross races are conducted on circuits of around three kilometres on a variety of surfaces. The courses usually have climbs and obstacles to navigate throughout the event.

ESport racing is conducted using trainers on virtual racing apps (e.g. Zwift, FulGaz, RGT). Events and training can be conducted at one location or in various locations based on the format and regulations.

Mountain Bike events include a varitey of formats which can be either endurance (cross country Olympic, cross-country marathon, eliminator and team relay, e-bike), downhill (downhill and four cross), pump track, gravel and trials. Endurance based formats are held on hilly, technical circuits. Downhill, Enduro and pump track formats involve fast and extremely technical courses. Four-cross is an event that sees riders race head to head on a short downhill course. Trials* see riders navigate obstacles with riders judged on their ability to negotiate these.

Road Races, Time Trials and Track events which are for individuals classified as a para-cyclist under the UCI regulations or as Athletes with an Intellectual Impairment through VIRTUS.  Adaptive Mountain Biking includes racing for individuals in adapted mountain bikes.

Road Races take place on the road and include races such as mass start road races, handicaps, time trials, team time trials and criteriums.  These are run over a variety of distances and terrains.

All track events must take place at a velodrome. There are a variety of races which may be conducted as part of a track event.  Some track races include: Points Race, Scratch Race, Time Trial, Handicap, Sprint, Team Pursuit, Madison and Team Sprint.

These include BMX Freestyle, Pump Track and Trials.
