Riders across Queensland enjoyed a mega weekend of Track and Trails State Championships racing at the Queensland State Cross Country and Madison State Championships.

The doors of the Anna Meares Velodrome were opened to spectators for the first time since March for the Madison State Championships, whilst Cross Country also invited spectators back to enjoy the racing atmosphere.

AusCycling Queensland Event Manager Louise Jones expressed her joy at having spectators back on track, and the incredible conditions riders were treated with on the boards.

“It was great to welcome spectators back into the Anna Meares Velodrome following a long hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions. The conditions were hot on the boards, and the racing was fast. There was a great turn out with 131 riders participating in the weekends racing” said Jones.

Across town at the Baden-Powell Park in Stamford 208 riders participated in the Cross Country State Championships hosted by the D’aguilar Range Cycling Club.

The D’aguilar Range Cycling Club President Christopher Davies recapped a fantastic yet hot weekend of racing.

“Though the temperature stayed just under thirty degrees, it was the heat that got to the last race of the day on Sunday” said Davies.

Davies went on to highlight the fantastic improvements to the course at the Baden-Powell Park.

“The trail improvements were a huge hit both for the kids, with a course that had more features than before.”

The feature of the Cross Country Championship weekend for the Club President was the great participation from the young juniors through to the elite.

“It was great to see so many get involved in the racing, from the kids through to the elite riders. It was fantastic to see Ben Forbes and Anna Beck not only win their elite races but come into the event super relaxed, composed and approachable” said Davies.

AusCycling Queensland wishes to thank all volunteers, clubs, staff, riders and officials in all of their hard work and dedication in making the mega championship weekend a roaring success!
