AusCycling Queensland Road and Track 2021 Calendar Changes

There are some important changes to the AusCycling Queensland Road and Track Racing Calendar that you should be aware of.

Due to changes made to the National Road and Track Calendar - with late date changes of Road National Championships and Bay Criteriums, the cancellation of Tour down Under and Cadel’s Road Race, and the inclusion of a NRS block in January – adjustments have had to be made to the Queensland 2021 calendar.

AusCycling Queensland apologises for any inconvenience in the adjusting of the 2021 calendar. COVID-19 persists to impact our events and the calendar, with events shifting to accommodate nation wide. The National calendar changes take precedence, following consultation with Queensland coaches, riders and the Commission the State Road and Track calendar has adjusted to accommodate necessary changes.

The major change of the 2021 AusCycling Queensland Road and Track Calendar sees the Elite and Para State Track Championships move from 4-7th February to 17th – 20th February inclusive.

The Queensland High Performance Coaches have highlighted that these changes will benefit riders with it’s positioning leading into National events.

The changes allow more racing options for Queensland’s Elite riders (and U19) who will be competing in the NRS and Bay Criteriums leading into the National Road Race Championships.

Depleted rider numbers was a concern with the original placement of the Elite Track State Championships, with the event clashing with the NRS and Bay Criteriums. As well as allowing plentiful recovery time, enticing riders to compete whereas they otherwise would have opted against competing events.

The Elite and Para State Track Championships will run from Wednesday through to Saturday, allowing the Sizzling Summer Series to continue on the Sunday. With racing happening in the evenings to not reduce the U19 field who would have already missed out on school commitments for the Road National Championships.
