AusCycling Queensland’s first BMX event was hosted over the weekend at Cities Challenge at the Nerang BMX Club on the Gold Coast. With an incredible 49% increase of participation from the 2019 event, Cities Challenge was well received by all, and was attended by two Australian Cycling Team BMX riders Caroline Buchanan and Izaac Kennedy and categorised rider Des’ree Barnes.

The Superclass Women’s field glittered with talent, with eight times BMX and Mountain Bike World Champion, and two time Olympian Caroline Buchanan taking the Cities light. Buchanan was joined on the podium by Beenleigh BMX Club’s Des’Ree Barnes, and Nerang BMX Club’s Erin Lockwood.

Izzac Kennedy from the Logan City BMX Academy was the stand out in the Superclass Men field. Kennedy was joined on the podium by Redlands BMX Club rider Jye Hombsch and Western Australian rider Bradley Game from Wanneroo BMX Club.

AusCycling Queensland wishes to thank the host club, the volunteers, officials, organisers, staff and riders who made Cities Challenge such a fantastic event in 2020! We look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Countries Challenge.
