Message from the AusCycling General Manager, Queensland

Re: Greater Brisbane COVID-19 Restrictions

This morning the Premier of Queensland and the Chief Health Officer announced changes to COVID-19 restrictions within the Greater Brisbane area, including Moreton Bay, Logan, Ipswich and Redlands.

Since this announcement we have been in contact with the Queensland Government, Sport and Recreation and QSport to fully understand what this means for cycling Clubs, members and events/training.

What does this mean for you?

  • Organised physical activity (e.g. events or training) within the Greater Brisbane area will be cancelled
  • Residents within the Greater Brisbane area, including Moreton Bay, Logan, Ipswich and Redlands should stay home from 6pm Friday 8th, until 6pm Monday 11th. You should stay at home unless it is for essential work, providing healthcare for a vulnerable person, or essential shopping and exercise in your neighbourhood.
  • Can you go for a ride? Yes you can , however you can only do so with members of your household or one other person who is not a member of your household.
  • Do you have to wear a mask? In the Greater Brisbane area, for the period of the lockdown, face masks must be worn at all times when you are outside of your home including the following settings: shopping, public and shared transport, weddings and funerals, while waiting for takeaway food and at workplaces.
  • Whether you are within the Greater Brisbane area or not, if you are feeling unwell or are showing any symptoms please get tested.

If you have further questions, please refer to the Queensland Government website for more information.

We have also received confirmation from Sport and Rec that these restrictions extend to those that live or have visited Greater Brisbane, and maybe elsewhere within the State. Therefore, riders travelling to events such as the Rockhampton Cup on Wheels should take note

I would also like to confirm that the AusCycling Queensland office will closed this afternoon, and reopen on Tuesday 12th January. Our team is still contactable via phone or email, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

As more information comes to hand, we will be sure to continue to communicate with you all.

Regards,

Sean Muir
