Adelaide Track League To Host National Madison Championships!

AusCycling SA and Adelaide Track League are delighted to announce that the Adelaide Track League event to be held on Saturday, February 27 at the Adelaide SuperDrome will not only play host to the SA Sprint State Championships and crown our fastest Men’s and Women’s Sprinters but, due to the current restrictions in Victoria, also now include the Madison National Championships to headline the program!

Australia’s finest track endurance riders will compete on the world-class velodrome at the State Sports Park for the coveted title of Madison National Champion, in a race widely heralded as the most exciting discipline on the track. With the Tokyo Olympics scheduled just a handful of months away, it will be a tough ask for any team to beat the riders from the Australian Cycling Team who have been riding incredibly over the summer, both at the Santos Festival of Cycling and Road Nationals.

AusCycling SA General Manager Lachie Ambrose is ecstatic about the announcement, saying: “Given the circumstances, we’re very glad that our Madison pairings get to race for the National Title they’ve been preparing for. We are fortunate that Adelaide Track League has grown to be a nimble and supportive part of the landscape of Track racing in SA and indeed, on a National scale, while simultaneously building spectator engagement back up to levels not seen in decades. With fantastic racing, a stacked program, local food and beverages and an awesome atmosphere, we’re very much looking forward to what should be an amazing night’s entertainment.”

The night’s stacked program will also feature the State Elite and U19 Sprint Championships where SA’s best Sprinters will take on the might of the Adelaide-based Australian Olympic Team for State Championship glory, with the South Aussies having seen great results against the best in the country in recent months at both Adelaide Track League and at the delayed National Track Championships in Brisbane. This will be a great form-tester for our South Australian athletes for the upcoming National Championships again next month!

Junior A-grades and Support races for Men and Women will be held in addition to the Elite racing, an opportunity for those up-and-coming track cyclists to show off their race-craft in front of a cheering home crowd. This is one of the key ingredients in the Adelaide Track League recipe to continue the re-emergence of track racing in SA, and we are excited to see some of our favourite local racing heroes who might not be elite yet (or anymore!) take to the boards and put on a show for a full (COVID Safe) house.

Riders and teams will be announced next week, and the existing Adelaide Track League program including Support and Junior racing will be amended to accommodate these National Championship races.
