A Beautiful Day Out at Springton for the South Australian Time Trial Championships

We have new state champions in the Time Trial discipline after a beautiful day out at Williamstown! Our second year on the Springton Rd course was met with fine weather throughout the morning’s racing, and the racing went smoothly on the undulating course!

With over 60 riders taking up arms for the day, there were sure to be some close battles but as has been the case in recent years, the day was ruled by standout performances nearly across the board. Many of the grades (indeed, all but 4!) were won by time gaps of a minute or more so it is clear that our gold medal winners are deserving, putting so much time into their competitors.

As the club that’s known for their seasons of Time Trials each year, it was no surprise to see Port Adelaide Cycling Club well-represented across the medals, taking 9 of the titles and 16 medals in total across the board with especially good representation in the Women’s Masters grades where they took 6 of the 7 WMAS titles.

In the JW19 race, it was Chelsea Symons (MCCC) who flew to the gold medal spot a full minute ahead of Tess Wight (MGCC) and Eloise Sandow (NCC) in second and third – Chelsea’s time of 31:15.7 for the 19km course would stand as the fastest women’s time of the day! The JM19 race saw the top three within one minute, with Aston Freeth (PACC) (+44.9s) and Jai Fielke (NCC) (+16.1s) trailing Zac Marriage (KCC) and his time of 26:44.2. Hannah Seeliger (KCC) took home the Women’s U23 Gold Medal.

Kelly Fettes (PACC) rode strongly in the Elite Women’s race to trail the race winner, Nicole Mitsigeorgis (NCC), by only 15 seconds by the finish, but Nicole’s 31:35.1 was enough to take home the title! In the Elite Men’s race, it was last year’s State Champion Lucas Hoffman (WCC) who successfully defended his title on the longer 33.8km course with a 46:31.6 over a storming Lachlan Glasspool (CDCC) who finished just under 20 seconds down. Karl Evans (NCC) rounded out the podium in third place.

A great day out and a great way to finish our Summer season of State Championships for Road and Track! There’s plenty of racing across the disciplines throughout winter, so make sure you get out there and use that AusCycling membership!
