AusCycling Tasmania would like to congratulate Richie Porte who was awarded the Key to the City of Launceston and Inaugural Cycling Tasmania International Medal.
Born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1985, Richie shifted his focus to cycling at age 21. We have seen Richie ride with amateur teams in Italy, have a breakthrough win in the Stage 4-time trial of the Giro Ciclistico d’Italia (‘baby Giro’) which led to generate a great interest from World Tour teams and eventually resulting in him placing podium in the 2020 Tour de France!
Richie’s connection to Tasmania is one that runs deep, he is regularly referred to in international race commentary as “Richie Porte, the man from Launceston in Tasmania”. He continues to make Tasmania proud as he represents our state.
We wish him the best of luck with the up coming season!
