Riders and participants can look forward to a week of on- and off-track entertainment following the release of a new-look schedule for the 2024 GWM BMX Racing National Championships at Westside BMX in Perth from 7-13 October.

Based on feedback from past events and in collaboration with host club Westside BMX, AusCycling has taken a fresh approach to Australia’s premier BMX Racing event, with an emphasis on improving the overall experience for participants.

One of the major changes to the National Championship will be the event schedule, which has been overhauled to better meet the needs of riders and participants, and to add entertainment value to the week.

Version 1.0 of the 2024 GWM BMX Racing National Championship schedule is available here.

Key changes to the event schedule:

  • The final round of the National Series has been brought forward to Tuesday, followed by a days’ break before National Championship racing begins on Thursday. This aims to ensure high quality racing for both the National Series and the first day of National Championship racing.
  • Most 20-inch National Championships will now race on Thursday, followed by the race for UCI points on Friday with the Elite categories. 20” National Championships for 14, 15 and 16-year-olds will also be decided on Friday.
  • Saturday caps off three days of action-packed racing with the Superclass and Cruiser National Championships.
  • For the first time since 2021, the National Championship will also feature racing under lights, with Friday's finals taking place in the early evening.

AusCycling Head of Events, Off-Road Dale Percy shed further light on the schedule changes for 2024.

“The feedback we’ve had from the BMX Community over the last few years was that the National Championship needed to build towards the pinnacle events, while also considering the impact the schedule had on people’s commitment to racing,” he said.

“The week now builds towards the elite-level racing on Friday and Saturday, while the racing will also feature finals under lights on Friday.

“This will allow us to explore entertainment options at the event, transforming the Nationals into a true entertainment spectacle.”

Please note, the schedule is subject to change, pending final rider entries for the event.

Elsewhere, AusCycling is working on a solution for trackside access that will make viewing more readily available, while Westside BMX is working with the City of Stirling to provide sufficient parking during the 2024 GWM BMX Racing National Championships.

A provisional site plan, including parking areas, tent sites, and expo location is expected to be available early next month.

More information including accommodation options, destination opportunities, and further event details, will be made available as soon as possible.
