Hosts for the 2021 and 2022 National Masters and Junior Road Championships Confirmed

AusCycling is pleased to confirm the dates and locations of the 2021 and 2022 National Masters and Junior Road Championships.

AusCycling General Manager – Events & Racing, Kipp Kaufman was excited by the opportunity to confirm the National Championships for 2021 and 2022 “These championships host cities will varying and unique racing opportunities for the participants. By confirming the Championships locations and dates will provide certainty to riders and their supporters.

“The opportunity to link the AusCycling Junior and Masters Road National Championships with the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong is particularly exciting as it will offer the opportunity for participants to race and then stay to enjoy an incredible Championships week.

2021 Junior Road Championships - Shepparton, Victoria: 24-26 September 2021

Regional Victoria will host the Junior National Championships adding to the multiple National, State and International cycling events the regional city has previously hosted.

Greater Shepparton City Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Harriott said the AusCycling Junior Road Cycling Event will bring the best junior talent from around Australia to our region.

“We are excited to welcome our nation’s upcoming cycling sensations to Greater Shepparton in September next year. In the past we’ve seen young athletes such as Caleb Ewan win national junior titles in our region, and now he’s conquering the world winning stages at the Tour De France. We’re looking forward to our community and visitors to be able to see future stars in action,” Mr Harriott said.

“Greater Shepparton has hosted a number of cycling events over the years and it is wonderful to continue our strong partnership with AusCycling to host the Junior Road National. Together we will prepare to deliver a safe event that will adhere with any state and federal COVID-19 guidelines.”

“Cycling has grown over the months during the COVID-19 restrictions and we hope that visitors coming to experience the junior road cycling will also enjoy our many cycling paths that wind through the region taking in our rivers, bushland and our landscapes while they are here.”

“Hosting this prestigious event we look forward to welcoming lots of new and returning visitors to our region and we hope they take the opportunity to explore more of what our great region has to offer during their time with us.”

2021 Masters Road Championships - Sunshine Coast: October 8-11 2021

Economy Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said hosting the 2021 Masters Road Championships was an exciting first for the Sunshine Coast.

“As home to the Australian Cycling Academy, we are keen to welcome Australia’s best masters cyclists for the 2021 championships to showcase not only the stunning natural assets we are known for, like the Glass House Mountains and Mooloolaba Beach, but our world class cycling training facility,” Cr O’Pray said.

2022 Junior and Masters Road Championships - Wollongong and Kiama: September 13-16 2022

The 2022 AusCycling Junior and Masters Road Championships will serve as a lead-in event to the 2022 UCI Road Championships in Wollongong as Championships which are conducted concurrently.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery AM celebrated the hosting of the Championships.

“We’re excited to add the National Juniors and Masters Road Championships to our 2022 portfolio. With these national titles to precede the UCI Road World Championships, we’ve secured an unprecedented stable of events that celebrate not only the sport of cycling, but the great outdoors of the Illawarra.”

“Cyclists and their families from around the country will descend on Wollongong in the week leading into the championships and stay for an extended period – it’s a great win for the region and tourism sector, not only in terms of direct economic impact for an industry crying out for good news at the moment, but in magnifying the reach and reputational impact of a global event.”
