Quality education is vital to the development of the AusCycling Coach and Instructor Pathway. This ensures that our people are knowledgeable and skilled at all levels.
The Coach and Instructor Education Framework supports an individual to focus on either working as a participation instructor or performance coach (or both).
Additionally, it provides specific add-on specialisation courses based on the interest and focus of each Coach or Instructor.
AusCycling courses aim to increase the quality of coaches and instructors by:
All courses require participants to demonstrate required competencies for each level and discipline. Coaches and Instructors progress from a gained knowledge (theory) to sessions of delivery (practical).
The AusCycling courses provide an aspiring coach/instructor with the opportunity to learn more about the process of coaching (what, when, where and how) through a mixture of practical and theory based learning. This approach ensures the competencies required at each level are progressed in an appropriate and robust format.

Many road cycling groups have set their own “bunch rules” and social norms which make for safe and considered bunch riding. The language, verbal and non-verbal, is paramount to safety while riding as it informs every rider in the bunch and ensures the enjoyment of cycling in bunches.
Historically, road riding bunch norms have been handed down through the generations of cyclists and generally by a former elite athlete.
Recognising the shift of new individuals coming into the sport, the need to have consistent knowledge of bunch riding standards, ride planning, conduct and evaluation is a priority of AusCycling.
The Road Ride Leader course prepares persons who find themselves leading the decision-making in daily rides by offering a set of ground rules and approaches to dealing with everyday bunch situations.
The remit of a Road Ride Leader is the ability to lead a group of up to 30 adults, 15 adolescents, or 10 children in planned, risk-managed and documented low-traffic riding environments.
Please note, it is outside the scope of practice for a Road Ride Leader (non-accredited coach) to provide any physiology-based training programs to any rider.
